October is upon us and with that the Breast Cancer Awareness month has started, with millions of people from all over the world pledging their support to pink to raise awareness for breast cancer and to try and do what they can to stop it from spreading. The Breast Cancer Awareness month was initially started to promote mammography and its usefulness in fighting against breast cancer. Mammography is the process which is used as a screening and diagnostic tool to help detect breast cancer in its early stages and treat it before it causes extensive harm to the person.Did you know that for about 3% of the women population, the cause of their death would most likely be Breast Cancer. Also, Early Detection of Breast Cancer could potentially save lives. In cases where Breast Cancer gets detected in its early stages, the 5-year survival rate is the highest, i.e. 98%, and also gives the person the highest chances of beating the disease and getting cured.
Since about 25 years, the Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been an annual event, where efforts are made by prominent organizations to increase awareness about breast cancer and help those who are afflicted by it in any manner possible. Various organizations such as the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), American Cancer Society (ACS) , American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) and many others have joined hands to fight against this deadly disease. Not just early detection, but with preventive steps, healthy eating habits, and a proactive lifestyle can also help prevent Breast Cancer. Awareness through education is one of the best ways to stop breast cancer. A lot of people are unaware about the impact of this disease, and how close could it be. A little knowledge might be a life saver. This is exactly what the Breast Cancer Awareness Month is all about.
